  • i have a SINCERE question- where did all the prosperity teachers themselves first hear the "prosperity gospel" teaching ? where,exactly did this teaching originate from ? where did oral roberts, leroy thompson & the rest of these preachers 1st get this prosperity teaching ?

  • You can trace a lot of it back to the 1920's and 30's. The early Pentecostals taught many of the same things taught today. However, in the late 1800's the teaching was mainly around "health" with teachers like Mary Baker Eddie.

    The church has always applied a earthly cause and effect to the promise of God. It comes from not reading scripture correctly or should I say rationally. The Bible can say anything when read analogously. The Bible has to be read as literature and not mystified.

  • In answer to your question, "spiritualaccent," go to justinpeters(dot)org. Scroll down to "View demo of Justin's seminar." Powerful expose on WoF Movement. Did his thesis in seminary on Benny Hinn.

  • @spiritualaccent If I wanna get lost in my own selfish greed, I have an entire world system to help me out. but when I need to be snapped back into the reality of my condition so it can be dealt with head on, I turn to the truth of God. see the difference?

  • @spiritualaccent I think it comes from blending spiritualism and New Age mysticism with Christianity which produces these false teachings through corrupting and changing the teachings of God. When you listen to this, you can discern the spiritualism, especially in the "little gods" teaching. Spiritualists and New Age followers would say the same thing.

  • Dear brother I hear your rebuke and it is well founded upon good research. However is your heart in the right place? Are you rebuking in love? Are you calling them to repent? Because the Lord forgave and forgives your many sins does he not? First remove the beam from your own eye so that you can clearly see to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Do it in love. God bless you richly with His love, mercy and grace in Jesus' name.

  • @spiritualaccent you can trace it back to the 1800's P.P. Quimby, Mary Baker Eddy, and E.W Kenyon.

  • 2 Timothy 4:3

    For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

  • spiritual accent I think that a lot of it sprang out of early pentecostal movement - taking the pentecostal faith doctrines, kingdom teaching and twisting it. prosperity cults are new cf 1Tim 6v5 - some think of godliness as a way to material gain - men whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth (HSCB). It trying to use God to fulfill our own lusts or as John Piper addresses seeing love as God making much of use not vice versa (cf Don't waste your life ch 1)

    I prefer how they put it in Jurassic Park:

    "God creates dinosaurs. God destroyes dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs." - Ian Malcolm
