Jim Greiner (www.handsondrum.com), an internationally renowned expert in corporate team building drumming programs and community drumming, led a community drum circle at the starting line to kick off the 39th annual Santa Cruz, California Wharf To Wharf Race on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
15,000 people of all ages and skills, from elite African and U.S. runners to children and elders, participated in the 10 K event. The race course runs from the Santa Cruz Wharf/beach Boardwalk to the Capitola Wharf and takes place on the fourth Sunday every July.
Jim's drum circle at the starting line of the W to W Race is a long time Santa Cruz tradition.
The Santa Cruz Wharf To Wharf race is a benefit that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for Santa Cruz County school athletic programs.
