cms's endcap hadron calorimeter is constructed from old russian artillery shells. that is what humans must do: melt all weapons for science. we must go forward, no backwards

@smidge146 hah, good debate starting, but thing is, a nation needs to spend money on all those things, weapons, technology, food, roads, loads of stuff, all the time. It's a big chain, quite fascinating really.

I believe in CERN and I think that money has been spent on a good thing. and if you think this is a waste of money and go talk to the US goverment for spending all of their money on stupid weapons...

Concerning discoveries, CERN also invented the MRI, the scanner, PET tomography, and now Hadrontherapy. These gadgets save millions of lives around the world every day, and the whole budget of CERN is 1 bio USD/year. That's not more than the one of a medium size hospital or a university, but this is not on one state only, but more than 21 nations contribute to it, so your share is infinitesimal. For a cent a year, you get a whole lot of med innovation which sooner or later will save your life!
