This presentation by Dr. Jose Pimienta-Bey is a fantastic account of who the Moors were, how they gained power in the Iberian Pennisula today know as Spain and Portugal and even more importantly, how they lost power. Many of us dont know that African (Moors) along with Arabs, ruled Spain from 711 A.D. 1492 A.D. They made considerable contributions to Europe who was going through the Dark Ages.

The Moors contributed to science, medicine, Art, Mathematics, Agriculture, etc. and have mostly been with totally written out of history by Europeans or their images have been obfuscated and distorted to that of Arabs or Europeans. Learn how we conquered the Iberiean Pennisula and went into Sicily, France, Ireland, etc. bringing civilization and knowledge at a time when 99% of European Christians were illiterate.

Did you know that 1 million Africans settled in France? Who did they intermingle with? What contribution did they make to France? Why havent we heard anything about them? Did you know that about 3.5 million Africans settled in Spain? What contribution did they make? Who did they intermingle with? Did you know this is how the Spanish and the Sicilians got their complexion? Did you know that some of the most famous universities in Europe such of Oxford, Naples, Bologna, etc. were started to study the Moorish Science text? Did you know that some of the 1st professors at these universities were Africans?

Dr. Jose Pimienta-Bey is one of the foremost authorities on the Moors and is a contributor to the fantastic book Golden Age of the Moors edited by Dr. Ivan Van Sertima. I strongly urge all African people to get this book. It has numerous contributors who wrote essays for the book including Runoko Rashidi, Dr. Jose Pimienta-Bey, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Dr. John G. Jackson, Edward Scobie, etc. This book will change the way you look at African people forever.

To reclaim what we once had, we must 1st learn what we once had. Once we learn what you use to do, we will stop doing what we have been taught to do and start doing what we use to do. The only thing stopping us from achieving greatness once again is us.

  • And for those who do not know it, the classical knowledge that was at the origin of the renaissance was preserved in the east roman empire, the richest, most cultured land in the world until its destruction by islamic hordes from the east some 500 years ago.

  • Ziegle9876, the knowledge that was preserved came from the Moors and it was studied by the Roman Catholic Church behind closed doors. It was translated into Latin and they suppressed most of this information from the people to have power over them. Keep in mind that 99% of Europeans at that time were illiterate. The Roman Catholic Church wanted to keep it that way. They persecuted the Moors but took their knowledge to bring them out of the Dark Ages.

  • The Moors did not contribute to ANYTHING except slavery, piracy and murder. All intellectuals on the Sultan's court were non-moors, non-arabs. It was the most repressive intolerant and retrograde regime imaginable. Only with the reconquista and the necessary removal of subversive elements during the inquisition could freedom and culture be restored.

  • Ziegle9876, thank you for your comment. It is obvious that you have not studied history to find out who the Moors really were and what contribution they made to Europe. Apparently you haven't watched the entire video and probably haven't read "The Golden Age of The Moor" by Dr. Ivan Van Sertima.

If you study Europe at the time of 711 A.D. when they Moors went in because Barbarians had control of the Iberian Pennisula, you will see that they made significant contributions.

  • Crushing the moors is the only thing that allowed the West to advance to the liberal and advanced civilization that it is.

  • @ziegle9876 Did that freedom and culture involve kicking both the Jews and African Moors out of Spain?

  • the moors was not arab they was berbers with a little arab blood from the early invasion. so when the moors went to europe they was not arab. they was berber dna(e1b1b1)=not arab blood.

  • @ziegle9876 - "removal of subversive elements during the inquisition could freedom and culture be restored" - WOW! you are really brainwashed if not disturbed. I just wanted to make that comment I didn't mean to disturb you during visiting hours...please continue to take your meds and attend group therapy meetings.

  • did this man publish a book calledunderstanding the decline of moorish power if so where can i get it ? lookes at amazon could not find it

  • i have nothing agains this fella speaking in favor of his Moorish roots and it's past tense conflicts with european evolutionary process, the invading moor's failed attempts to settle in southern europe had a purpose, just like nowadays most of us are having a hard time coexisting with our own cultural diferences.

  • How Spain got their complexion? Ah Spain is a very diverse country most of northern Spain is white there are blonds and redheads in northern Spain with Nordic skin colour and featuresnot all Spaniards are dark and most dark Spaniards are in Andalusia
