Funding for the Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program is in danger of being cut from the upcoming federal budget. The program has provided funding for more than 10 years to children's hospitals, like Cincinnati Children's, to train pediatric care providers. Loss of this funding could significantly reduce availability of pediatricians and pediatric subspecilists across the country.
Currently, CHGME funds over 280 residents and fellows at Cincinnati Children's. Historically, more than half of the doctors trained here stay in the Cincinnati area long term, paying taxes and making homes.
