I showed a video with some private photographs of the Second World War taken by members of my family some time ago.
Two pictures show a captured Austin Tilly car in Greece in 1941. I decided to build a model of this vehicle and so i bought the Tamiya kit.
The quality of the kit is excellent, the model almost builds itself by shaking the box. I can recommend the kit to everyone!
The kit is just great, it was finished only 36 hours after i bought it in a local shop!
Due to a serious lack of vehicles, British forces pressed civilian cars and trucks into military service during WWII. The most common of these were pick-up tucks produced by several car manufacturers in the 1940s, which were designated as "Car, Light Utility". They were based on passenger car chassis whti steel body construction and reliable leaf spring rigid axle suspension, had rear wheel drive, and were powered by a 30hp 4-cylinder water-cooled 1200cc gasoline engine. As the enclosed cabins offered a smooth ride and the cargo areas provided great usability, soldieres affectionately called them "Tilly". During production they received several modifications. The initial wooden tailgate was changed to a metal one, electric blinkers were replaced with a more reliable manual system, and the exhaout layout as well as front grill differed according to the production period. However, they proved their utilitarian nature in the field as both old and new parts and different kinds of tires were often fitted out of necessity. Although replaced on the frontlines by 4WD vehicles in the latter half of the war, they continued to serve in the rear areas for liason and other duties. From the Dunkirk evacuation and North Africa to the European fronts, they were widely used by Allied forces, with even Princess Elizabeth using one while training as a mechanic during her time in the A.T.S. More than 65,000 were produced and they remained in service with British, Danish, and Portuguese armies until the 1950s.

wirklich ein schönes modell. das finisch sieht mal wieder perfekt aus. Ist glaube ich ein schon etwas älterer bausatz - aber super detailliert

Very impressive Frau Tilly, captured subjects are always intresting. I like the weathering and overall feel of the subject.
