If you see other performances of Paul White, it was something he did when performing, so I don't think so. Not to mention this soundie was made after their successful show with Ellington, which was an all black cast.

Producers higher the performances they wanted, and didn't tell them how to perform.

There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with what these performers are doing. They were obviously brilliant and extremely talented. Black is BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE IT when Black folk smile, grin and show ALL their teeth.
