Enjoy this video of the SIG45 sailing fast in pleasant conditions in the Bay of Cannes. The boat is very fast, and very smooth. The speed is amazingly easy to achieve. The boat regularly sails faster than the wind. In this video, the top speed on a broad reach is about 19-20 knots, in about 18 knots of wind. Upwind speed is between 9 and 11 knots. Note that there is virtually no spray and that the boat stays totally dry and calm even at these speeds.
The boat has a very comfortable cruising interior which sleeps 6 in three double cabins. In addition there are two heads, a large galley, dinette and nav station.
This boat is like an AC45 (America's Cup catamaran) for the family man!
The boat is designed by the same team (VPLP) that designed the BMW Oracle America's Cup Trimaran. For more information see www.lebreton-yachts.com. Number 2 is currently being built by Westerly Marine in California. Music from Andy Slatter, http://audiojungle.net/user/Slats

  • which sails does it use?

  • @esp196309 We have north sails 3DL600 sails on this boat. the next one will have 3DL860.

  • how many people is the minimum crew, considering eletric wrinches?

  • @alleycat19897 Hello. The boat can be fairly easily singlehanded with limited electric winches. We have an electric winch for the halyard for the mainsail, as hoisting the main is the most labour intensive job on board.

  • Hello,

The slender bows mean that the boat does go through waves, rather than over them. This may look like nose diving. But slender bows mean that there is very little decelleration when the boat enters a wave - and it is decelleration that is dangerous, and can potentially result in a pitchpole/nose dive. The reduced bouyancy is offset by extending, rather than widening, the bows. The mast is placed well aft. This philosophy is used on modern racing multis, from A-cats to offshore trimarans.

  • @thx1966 Hi. indeed, the crew is mainly on the windward side because that is the best place for steering and operating the sails.

The crew weight makes a small contribution to stability. Most of the stability comes from the width of the boat. The "angle of vanishing stability" is about 70 degrees on the SIG45 - this is the point beyond which the boat would capsize. However, the greater the degree of heel, the less wind there is in the sails. In addition, the SIG45 has an anti capsize system.
