A Raiden run on default settings. (This version of the game doesn't send you to a checkpoint when you die.)

  • Two questions:

    - Is this your manual shooting-frequency or are you using auto-fire? Kudos if you manage to shoot that fast on your own over a long period.

    - Sometimes you avoid bullets that appear rather close in front of you without any sweat or by simply standing still. Are your prediction-abilities, nerves and reflexes so good or did you slow down MAME (or what you used for playing)? How long have you been playing the game if it's based solely on your skills and knowledge on game-routines?

  • @DerLomaxx I used autofire. I don't use cheats or slowdown in the runs I upload. Before recording this, I had spent a few months learning safe routes and positioning for each level.

  • @saucykobold Thanks for the reply. A few months ... then I am still confident for myself. ;) I know this game since my teenager-time back in the 90s, but never trained it that intense. I keep playing it with gamepad, 1 credit and manual fire every now and then during some periods and made it to the endboss of level 4 at best so far AFAIR. Maybe I'll get a HRAPV3SA some times or have you got any better recommendation?

  • @DerLomaxx I'm not very knowledgeable about arcade sticks, sorry. I usually play shooters with a stock keyboard. I also like the Japanese-style Saturn pad.

  • Which versions of Raiden actually have checkpoints? I can't seem to find any.

  • @Despatche The Japanese release that's featured in the INH superplay has checkpoints. The player really boosts his score by sacrificing his life stock at the end of 1-6. I think the Taiwanese version is the only one in MAME that sends you back when you die.

  • In the playstation 1 collection "Raiden Project", which features "Raiden" and "Raiden II", this option can be turned on as well. As far as I noticed the games themselves are the same as the arcade-versions. Works fine on PCSX-R (emulator).

  • Always had a love for the first two Raiden games, felt like a love letter to Toaplan. Got this one on Genesis (with checkpoints) and on Raiden Project PS1 with Raiden II. I must eventually track down Raiden DX as I love how deep the game is and how different it is to Raiden II despite have some similarities.
