Do you think that it's possible to create the same composition shooting with a 14-24mm lens instead of the 24-70mm? Or there'll be some distortion effect?

Yes, that is correct, there will be a lot of distortion where the stitching software / plug-in will have hard time stitching. Plus, if they successfully attempt to stitch the images altogether, it becomes very small like a single photograph using 24-70mm with a lot of curvy edges around. It is the best to use 24-70mm or longer lenses to do panorama. Wide angle and fisheye lenses are good for "360º Virtual Tour" photographs

when you get the files from a folder, do the pictures have to have consecutive file names (i.e. DSC0001, DSC002, DSC003, etc.) for them to be lined up properly?
or can photoshop detect which picture goes next to which?
