Joe was reinventing his amps & guitars in the 60's & 70's himself. Joe doesn't remember alot from those years but when he was partying his ass off he was still very smart & accurate with what he did musically!!!!  I read an interview from Guitar Musician magazine, I would say early 70's and he described how he changed his Marshall Amps & guitars to tweek his sound. He is no dummy, just sounds stoned.

saw this Frey and Walsh in Charlotte in 92 or 93. Frey puked 2 dozen times due to a stomach ulcer or something. Walsh carried the show and played every instrument on the stage. Friggin awesome.

That's bull. Joe lives or at least relives his heydays right now. His playing is now technically excellent, much more accurate than in the 70's not to mention the 60's!!
