Performing all of the "48" by memory is no small accomplishment.

I LOVE Ms. Hewitt also. This is the best version I have heard. The voicing is amazing in the fugue which is tricky and difficult. Hats off to this woman. BRAVA!

@bachmaninoff Playing from memory is a tradition begun by Liszt. It's interesting that we expect pianists to play from memory, but not harpsichordists.

@JAKKA55 a suitable name

@baroquegeek sorry to say but Karl Richter. one of, if not the most renown Bach interpreter blows this out of the water. most especailly because he performs it on his harpsichord which adds to the utter effect of perfection.

I happen to love Angel hewitt's Bach playing. It is more delicate and sentimental than for example Gould's , but in some ways it has more integrity. Gould's is more intelectual and highly mathematical but hers is at least in some ways more soulful. Don't get me wrong I love Gould he is a genius without question but this shows that Bach's music is so universal there are a lot of totally lagit was to play it

I was able to see her play both books of WTC live a few years ago. Even learning all 48 is a huge accomplishment, and performing them all is nearly unfathomable. I must say though, she didn't play them all from memory when I saw her; she had several severe memory slips in the book one concert, and consequently relied on a score throughout the entirety of the book two concert.
