WTOP-AM 15 (1500) Newsradio-15 - Washington, DC.
(In 1976, a Washington Post / Newsweek Station)

Part 1: I recorded this end-tag of 'All The Presidents Men', and the 'Newsradio Update' opening off-air, from Boston, in 1976.

Part 2: WTOP jingles (2) - excerpts from the "Know It All" Series reel from my collection. The OM at WTOP told me in the 80's that he thought these might be from the '76-era as well. (the logo + type-styles in this part are more of the '88 era).

  • Thanks for this video, I was curious about what jingles WTOP used in the past, I see the 40th street N.W address, and read on WTOP's history website, that they were at this address from 79' to 89'. Is that the years they used this catchy jingle(part 2)? What did they use after the part 2 jingle?

  • The OM at WTOP was trying to find the original Part 1 for me from '76. (An engineer did get me one off the cart and onto a cassette in '76, and I was later trying to get a better quality version). By this time, it was '88, and the OM could only find the 'Know It All' series, and he didn't state when it was used.

The studio address came from the tape box from '88.

I would have no idea what else they used. It was kind of a fluke that I was able to pick up WTOP in Boston in '76 in the first place..

  • ...Long jingles on a news radio station?

  • Probably for special-use and not played very often, I'd suppose. The reel has many other variations- none are short..

  • Actually I remember this jingle from 1984. Back then I thought it was kinda catchy! I still do! Thanks for uploading. I was feeling very nostalgic! Peace!!

  • Interestingly enough, the theater at MacArthur Blvd. N.W. has the marquee, ticket window, and the MacArthur signage intact, with only the "KB" removed! It's now a CVS.

  • WTOP radio is now FM and AM

  • PLEASE more OLD OLD STUFF if you can

  • Wow, this is the top!

  • THE PRESSES ARE HOT!
