If you're into knives, then you probably like the look of damascus, even if it's technically not really better than modern high-end steels. Damascus is beautiful but usually pretty expensive. For the aficionado on a budget, there are cheap true damascus blades from India and Pakistan, but are they any good? Here we have a closer look at 4 specimens...

  • hello Dagon ! I'm searching around for this cheap damascus knives since long time but I can't decide myself where to buy. Can you suggest me some good maker ? Where do you get this four ? Merçi ;)

  • @fraudioc Surf to boker.de and browse their site for Magnum - there are many affordable Magnum knives, some of which feature damascus blades. I don't have any of them yet they are probably good for the money. Keep in mind that affordable damascus blades are almost never stainless, meaning that the etching will become more difficult to see if you use it often, for example cutting citrus fruits will darken the blade.

  • @fraudioc I bought 2 of them on a knife show - straight from the manufacturer representative, the others on ebay. I am sorry but I don't know any brands.

  • Can carbon steel damascus hold an edge as well as a modern steel? Great review!

  • @SNAFU111999 some carbon steel damsascus blades are very hard and can hold an edge long. I am not sure how they compare to modern high end steels however.

  • i live in india. Where can i get them? do you know any place famous for them?

  • @siddarthmachado Sorry, I don't know. Have a look at indianyellowpages. com_,

  • some of the best looking and performing damascus i found on ebay is custom.knife there stuff is really nice and is i think actually 1095/15n20 and heat treated well. i know there 01 is legit and the dam i had was really good. it took an edge well and held it and didn't chip. i don't know if its from pakistan but i think. doesn't really matter if the steel is good and treated well, and it is.

  • Excellent review my friend. Really detailed and informative thank you...

  • Nice review and thanks for the info im from india and a knife collector too can be reached on lnehemiah@yahoo.com.Have a great day mr. Dragon.

  • Good review! I will try to upload video of Pakistani Damascus steel knives i have. If anyone looking for Pakistani Damascus steel knife, I may be able to provide manufacturer’s contact in Wazirabad, Pakistan. Damascus steel knives made in Pakistan are for export only as not many people here either wouldn’t buy these as they are expensive in comparison to other locally made excellent knives.

  • Good damascus is the rolsroyce of steel and the hardest to make cheap damascus is usually poor quality for hard use

  • @MrDagon007 thanks for the advice. I'm more interested on the Pakistan and Indian production, do you have any suggestion ? Where did you find yours ? thanks ;)
