This opening segment of the WCIA-TV Champaign, IL News At 10 from 1/29/09 features anchors Dave Benton and Jennifer Roscoe reporting on "The Verdict" regarding the impeachment of Illinois Governor Rod Blagoevich.

Reports from Blake Wood at the Governor's Mansion include a surprise interview with new Governor Pat Quinn just seconds after he sends it back to the studio from the live shot. Luckilly the director is paying attention and quickly drops the script to throw things back to Wood, catching anchor Benton somewhat confused and speechless, but still professional as usual.

Marissa Torres reports later from the State Capital, and Amanda Evans has an in studio report on the DTV readiness test.

Kudos to Blake Wood and all at WCIA for a very professional job. This is the type of "on the fly" coverage we like to see here in Central Illinois.

A well polished product is never as important as the information it contains. This time WCIA hit things right on the money after a hectic day of virtually non-stop coverage. Way to go guys! Raise the bar for the competition!

  • Oh! 'Twould be nice if you could possibly upload a montage of all their opens, bumps, rejoins, etc.

    I'd really like you. ^_^

  • I will put it on my "to do" list. I Tivo alot of their newscasts so I'll remember to start copying some of the stuff to DVD

  • Do they still use the talent bumps/rejoins?

  • yep. they have a number of different ones they use

  • you're very welcome. i try to comment on the positive things i see on local TV. I fixed the video description on that clip too to be a little less of a run-on sentence...LOL. Keep up the good work and I would love to get a copy of more of that tornado coverage from 2006 that you have in your clips. That was also very good stuff.

  • Okay, you know.

  • Because it has a fresh sound, and it goes with their over-all product well.

  • Why did WCIA switch to this news music package? It doesn't sound Mid-Westerny or has a CBS like signature in it.

  • This is interesting I actually Directed this Newscast. Kind of Strange to see it on youtube...I am quasi famous right? Production Represent! Yo.

  • XD Thanks a lot.
