@SOLOcan Here's from the Airwolf wiki BTW
"The stealth systems were capable of rendering Airwolf invisible to radar, as well as producing multiple radar returns."
It also has a service ceiling of the 10KM higher than the F-15 and it shoots lasers.

@vflskullangel Helicopters have medium range air to air missiles too except they also get the benefit of being low flying, being able to turn on a dime and much faster than a jet, as well as the ability to utilize terrain. This means they have a much easier time attaining lock on . This is the reason why they can attain a 5 - 0 kill ratio against fighter jets in military exercises.
At long range helicopters have a even easier time using terrain to avoid a lock on.

@vfIskullangel AW has stealth the same way the USS Enterprise can move faster than the speed of light or how a helicopter has a top speed of mach one. Sorry its a TV show they make shit up, you cannot apply real life science to say it doesn't have stealth because it doesn't operate in real life.
-
@SOLOcan AW Could never be stealth. Its Bell helicoter. Even if it was it still couldn't it doesn't even have the RAM, the shapes or nothing. Even the Camanche helicopter wasn't very stealthy and it was suppose to be that way. With guns it would be hard for a fight to engage a helicopter but all it takes is an air to air missile.

@vfIskullangel Cloaked to rader is not some unimaginable technology. The TV writers used it as a hand wave to explain why airwolf can be in places it shouldn't. But whatever for some reason your trying to apply real life logic to a TV show so i'll humor you.
Even if the f-15 could detect airwolf it would be difficult to achieve lock-on since a helicopter is low flying and can hide in the terrain. It's been tested, this is what happened when an F-15 tried to engage an AH-1 Cobra.

@SOLOcan Nobody knew what "Stealth" was until 1987 when the F-117 debuted to the public prior to that nobody had a clue. So how the hell did producers from 1984 knew what that technology was? Now Firefox yes because it was "Cloaked" to radar. That was more believable considering it was based on reports of what the Su-27 was suppose to be.
-
@vflskullangel This is besides the point anyway. Regardless of the kill ratio of F-15s it is standard doctrine for fighter jets to avoid helicopters because they do present a danger. You can cite the f-15s combat record if you want but its kinda irrelevant.
-
@vfIskullangel Do you really think the Russians or the Chinese would export their top teir missiles? Besides like I said its AWACS that's important. If planes need to engage from long range then its relatively easy for helicopters to just prevent a lock using terrain and eventually the f-15 will have to go home with its tail between its legs.
People knew about stealth in Star Trek. That's the benefit of writing for a tv show, you can make shit up.
-
@SOLOcan Not really considering that Russian and Chinese based missiles have a much further range than what our Aim 120's.
Stealth didn't hit the scene until AW was almost done. Nobody knew what stealth was until after 1987.

@SOLOcan They won't need to when they have missiles. Air to air at that so why would they need guns?
when i was a kid i'd always dreamed of flying and owning airwolf! and i still do!
