Well, this is a very nice closeup of the astronaut's VHF radio antenna. It's a flat metal blade, much like that in a carpenter's tape measure. It's easily seen in closeups of the PLSS and OPS, the two components of their life support backpacks. Because it's a flat metal blade, it can catch the sun and glint at just the right angle.

The moon could be useful in a lot of ways. First there's the obvious: mineral resources. But also bear in mind that humanity can't continue to progress if we stubbornly stick to the idea that we need to stay on this one planet forever. I think it'd be wise to establish a self-sufficient research station/"colony" on the Moon as practice for a future Mars base, and also as a sort of "insurance policy" for our species. If something happens to our one planet right now, we're doomed.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see the problem with littering on a lifeless world. Isn't littering only bad when there's a biosphere to pollute? The moon is dead! It's ours to pollute the fuck out of if we damn well please.
