I believe this is the best production of the Magic Flute. All the others I've seen just lack the passion behind Damrau's voice. She is, to me at least, the opera singer of our time.

You're right, but this Queen is a desperate woman, quite insane (note her looks) that has lost her power and try to reconquer it by vengeance. I don't really think that grace is the first thougt of this kind of queen... she's almost a lioness, a primitive creature of the antiquity, rather than a human being in a regal establishment.

Oh Damrau's characterisation is consistent in itself as a desperate woman as you called it. While it is very interesting and valid, I still think the music Mozart has written for the Queen shows grace, especially in this first aria. And I dare say Damrau's portraying of the Queen risks missing that.
