STICK GUNS looks at the appetite many of us had for war and for army games during our childhood. Often sought out deep within the local wood, these war games often shaped the most thrilling moments of our young lives, and for some fuelled an inevitable hunger for the real thing. This was the time of a three channel TV set, a time before games consoles or access to the internet - a time of unbridled imagination and heroism.

Narrated from the viewpoint of a now thirty-something dad, expressing fond memories of a world where adventure was limited only by your imagination. A world where a good stick became a great gun.

'Stick Guns' was filmed in Fleet, Hampshire in 2005 - the town where I grew up during the early eighties - and was shot in the same wood that I discovered my first stick gun.

'Stick Guns' gained a distribution deal with Shorts International and premiered at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival. That same year it was subsequently screened at the Longbaugh Film Festival, OneDotZero (ICA) and won the 'Columbine Award' at the Moondance Festival, Los Angeles.

  • Love it, love it, love it! We used to lose whole weekends to playing soldiers when I was that age in the early 80s. What did I do when I "grew up"? I did a few years in the TA and now I take part in WW2 re-enacting! It's never ended! ;o)
