Buß und Reu
Knirscht das Sündenherz entzwei,
Dass die Tropfen meiner Zähren
Angenehme Spezerei,
Treuer Jesu, dir gebären.

Guilt and pain
Break the sinful heart in twain,
So the teardrops of my weeping
A most soothing precious balm,
Faithful Jesus, thee doth offer.

  • very nice !!!!Who is singing????

  • Anne Sofie von Otter (Mezzo-soprano) :)

The orchestration is by the English Baroque Soloists conducted by John Eliot Gardiner (1988).

    Thank you for appreciating it!

  • Lovely stuff. And I'm an atheist too! :D

  • :))) Thanks, I'm glad not only that you liked it but also because it's great to know that there are other atheists around that don't hate religion. I say this because I've met a lot of atheists who hate religious people... and a lot of religious people who hate atheists.

I think that if religion is to end some day, let it be because of personal enlightenment (of the believers) rather than imposition (from atheists). I aspire to the day when God may become an inspiration, instead of a burden. :)

  • Beautiful! The video is really wonderful to watch:)

  • Thank you!

It's funny how I love Bach's sacred music so much, because I actually don't believing in God...

I guess there is something divine about Bach's

music, whether you are a religious people or not :)

  • Thanks for posting. Those of us who are agnostics also enjoy Bach and his religious music, as well as the religionists and the atheists! I have some serious doubt as to whether there is a God, but no doubt that, if there is, he likes Bach!

  • Beautiful aria! Thanks for posting!

  • Hi,

I wonder if this Alt is Lena Susanne Norin? It sounds like her and I know she's made a recording with Herman Max. It's so beautiful!
