Just picked this up today off a guy on CL who had a few of these. I'm not looking to restore it or anything, just want to fix it up enough so I can register it and use it for some light off-roading in the spring and summer.

  • Wow thats alot cleaner than most of them

  • @GarrettJDB I know, the other ones I looked at looked like Swiss cheese.

  • If those rear ends were prone to be problematic i wonder if you can use a different styled one as a substitute for the original because i imagine the rearends are rare.

  • @craig1974 I think the rears were usually OK. It's a Dana 44, so parts should be easy to get.

  • Can you do a update on tractor land

  • @SeaSniper126 Can't get to anything, it's all covered in a couple feet of snow. I want to get the Husqvarna going, but I can't get to it!

  • @phill903 Yeah, as are most other V8's. They can be timed/tuned to attain excellent MPG's with very little effort. I have acheived 20+ mpg's with my 78 345 Scout, with minor valvetrain alterations, timing recurve, carburetor calibration, ignition upgrades and it still retains stock gearing of 3.54, I cruise along at 55-60 mph with recorded and logged proven 20 mpg's. You lose 1-2 mpg for every mile over 60 you go.

  • @GotScout LOL! Yeah, sure......whatever. And Corvettes are made by Ford, with engines from Isuzu. Geez, lol!

  • "Red Neck Convertible"??.... dude... word of advice... when next in a gathering of Scout owners... learn to be real silent... or to take a hit. Perhaps you should have bought a Bronco... you seem the type.

  • @ChuckTruck78 Oh no... it was super thin... and from France... and the engines were made by Fiat... and the axles from Yugo...

  • "The sheet metal came from France"?? Where do people get this shit?... do you just make it up as you open your mouth?... That is crap dude...

The problem was 3 major design flaws... and drainage... But I won't get into it... because you clearly know more...

  • Oh, and umm, the sheetmetal was not super thin, lol! Scouts weighed over 6000 lbs.

  • Nice Project for fun! Looks like someone swapped the intake in there. 79/80's 345's are 4 bbl thermo-quads. The sheet metal rusted because when it was delivered, they let it sit outside and it got weathered. Then it started rusting before they even painted it. Once in a great while some shipments of sheetmetal made it directly inside, making it's way to an assembled scout without any rust underneath.

  • i just got a 1979 scout 2 for 25bucks it needs doors where can i get them? (its a soft top)

  • Something else that were tanks were ram chargers. If you can get one with a 318 and a manual with a granny gear they will seriously go through anything!! Cj's were the same but biggest thing about them was the 2 piece rear axle but a 180.00 kit and you can switch it over to 1 piece axles. My 304 went through 2 rear axles before I bought a 1 piece

  • Definitely a champ. Good buy!
