Don't be surprised. It's the best news opening in the country, because they only replace a few clips at a time, so it's both classic and fresh.

No other news opening in the world can even come close! Living away from my beloved Philly for 30 years now...This is what i miss the most!

The pitch and speed of the opening theme gets more and more ridiculous every decade, it'll sound like chipmunks singing in 2015. Back in the 80's it was low and dramatic, had oomph.

Is WPVI the only station that has an open so AWESOME!?!?!
As in just video and no graphics and stuff.

Simple theme. No need for fancy graphics. Just show Philadelphia going about their lives.. WPVI had the formula down and never let go of it.
I love how they change the opening sequence based on the seasons.

The ABC affiliate in Buffalo, NY (WKBW) used this theme as well, but this is much better done in terms of the outdoor graphics and cool shots around the city. They call WPVI their sister station, and got their "Eyewitness News" concept from WPVI in the 70's. I have never seen a complete WPVI newscast, but this is the best opening I have ever seen for a newscast - anywhere! It's simply excellent!!

I wish all local news opens could be like this. I like big fancy graphics and all, but this is simple yet perfect.
