Bass has gotten a bad reputation as being boring and simple, and to be fair it's not completely undeserved. However, there are times when the bass outshines the guitar, and if you blindly avoid bass these are some songs that you're missing out on.
Simple Man has some of the prettiest bass I've ever heard, plus it more complicated than the simple back-and-forth single note thing that the guitar has going. There's really only one choke point but during the guitar solo you get to play some chords, which is a nice rarity in bass. You really couldn't go wrong playing either instrument in this song.
