it's really hard to listen to the harmonics in the original song, thanks for putting this up! i had no idea the song had bass harmonics

he looks like slash on that photograph
yet he has a lot more talent :P

@danbobdavis I agree with that completely

not too difficult but great style!!
that's was too much!

@GrieverKai Yes, most certainly. I'm not too great with this sort of thing, but it sounds a bit over compressed. Not quite punchy enough, you know? Regardless, the mixer did a good job with this album. It's got a nice tonal balance but it's not too generic.
-
@danbobdavis I disagree, but we're all entitled to our opinion. I own the same kind of bass as the one he plays, I know a better tone can come out of it, even for recording, BUT the tapping, harmonics, and slaps, sound awesome by themselves. It could be a tad louder though don't you think?

@GrieverKai The way everything sits in together is actually quite nice. Youtube compresses and distorts its audio so that the quieter videos uploaded by people that don't have the time or knowledge to mix their audio can be just as loud as everything else. Regardless, there's only so much you can change in a recording. Arif's tone is most likely extremely similar sounding at the source.

I'm no newbie to recording, I'm aware that some tracks don't sound good by themselves, but this is ridiculous. These guys don't know how to mix the bass, and I'm surprised Arif let it happen. I'm a bass player and I was even aware he was tapping in this song or barely in Bloodmeat. Plus he's playing a very nice Spector bass. He's way to good to be mixed in that way.

can anyone tell me if in this song arif use a steinberger?
Tracks by themselves don't usually sound good, they are equalized to sound good with everything else, that's why they depend on the other instruments in order to "fill in"
if every instrument was equalized to sound good by itself, the master track will sound like shit when you put them all together
that's just how recording works

The harmonics are so great. It deffenitly shows how much work he puts into the bass line.
