  • This is Joe Rastis, Denny Tolliver, and Walter Wilkins shot in 1894. Said to tbe the first African Americans to appear in a motion picture (the Edison kinetoscope). It was called buck dancing (prototap) and includes a breakdown. It's pretty easy to imagine this leading straight into urban US dances of today. For a similar vintage clip, check out "Dancing Darky Boy" also on YouTube. Shot same year, same equipment (I think).
