n 1996 the Russian Motovilikha Plants Corporation fielded the latest of its Nona family, the 2S31 Vena, an automated self propelled mortar, with a longer barrel, (Russian 120mm 2A80) also firing the Gran laser-guided bomb against point targets to 13km range.

AMOS II mobile mortar system.

The known version was mounted on a BMP-3 chassis and has 70 rounds on board storage ( about twice as much as the former).

  • where the fuck are you getting this from dumbfuck??? where the hell do you see 1970s tech. here you brainwashed little fucker ...the 2S31 Vena can fire a heavy 120mm guided, HEAT, smoke, and thermobaric munitions 15km's... it has an all digital fire control system, navigation computer, and optical recon. sights you faggot... suck facts you piece of shit!

  • You are mistaken asdfsdf2. 2s31 Vena has a computerized fire control. You are talking about the older systems. As far as guided munitions, there is laser guided rounds, and no Wiesel Mortar System system doesn't do nearly as much as this in certain respects. Wiesel Mortar System is mortar system. This Vena is a mortar system, and more. Vena can do much more roles than Wiesel Mortar System. Vena, and Wiesel are designed with different concepts.

  • Mortars are incredible weapons. Mounted on this vehicle and with all those fire computers and optics, all that badass stuff, it will make a lot of enemies shit on pant.

  • @bittemeinrammstein The us army is full now of brainwashed faggots.

  • Mortars are "1920's technology." Doesn't mean they're not useful.

  • Vena can fire two major categories of ammo which are mortars, and it's own special howitzer round. Howitzer round is semi-fixed meaning that the propellant charge can be adjusted for zones like a conventional howitzer today, but loads as one piece into the breech similar to a US m119 105mm howitzer with the propellant attached to a stick at the base of the shell rather than packed into a canister case, then finally at the end of the stick, base plate like the bottom of a traditional mortar.

  • It is very accurate in long range direct fire. Wiesel Mortar System simply can't accurately put a round through a window in building like Vena can, so Vena has more combat of a combat role than a mortar, because paratroopers operating behind enemy lines can't afford to carry all types of weapons. The canon isn't of a high velocity nature like a tank gun, so it doesn't offer great anti-armor capability, only against light armored vehicles with a special round. Vena rounds are semi-fixed as well.

  • The Wiesel Mortar System is a pure mortar. Vena is a gun/howitzer/mortar hybrid platform for paratroopers, or airborne. The versatile canon is very accurate in direct fire, because the canon has rifling grooves, and the projectile itself has rifling grooves on a band all around, near the base of the shell. It can fire mortar rounds, and fire like a howitzer for more range. Vena is a versatile specialist platform. There is even guided shells for it, and carries a large payload 70 rounds.
