  • 1:27 "What separates the United States from the rest of the world is that the American railroads were all private companies." Errrrrr, no. Britain's railways were private companies until 1948. Indian Railways were owned by the government but built and operated by pivate companies. Canada's railways were built by private companies that failed and were nationalized around the time of World War I. France and Germany nationalized early but started with private companies. Try again!

  • good vids

  • @LycoValleyRRFan true true if only

  • @geomodelrailroader If only they were as popular today as they were at their height (1929)

  • @LycoValleyRRFan right thats why we have invested in trains they are cleaner then a truck they don't have too many parts and instead of burning all the desel they save it by channeling it in to reserve tanks and useing the energy as power not as waste. trucks brun all their desel ideling and having their stack and jake (engine brakes) set when they park. it is bad for the invironment and its bad for the econamy. I like trains they are the furure.

  • @geomodelrailroader Trains are also cheaper and can haul more. Plus I live in PA and every day there is a truck wreak (mostly idiot drivers). When it snow that goes to about 5 a day. Plus trains mostly are not affected by weather like the roads and airports. To bad RR's had to take the crap from the corruption Auto/truck/airline companies. Instead of putting money into Green cars how about put that into trains.

  • 2:30 Trucks have tried to derail the trains for years. we seen it with the perishable foods business. in 1962 they forced UP to close the fruit express shops in Pocatello they were out of business until 2005. trucks are trouble they sit in truck stops they burn Diesel and they pollute the air. trains are cleaner then trucks and don't have too many parts and they are still the number 1 way to haul freight.

  • silly trucks, frieght belongs to the railroads!!

  • @Stikkmann LOL I forgot to mention that.

  • @geomodelrailroader There are many more than 4 railroads in the U.S. You left out Kansas City Southern, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National (not US companies but they run in the U.S.) plus hudnreds or maybe even thousands of short lines and regionals. As this Modern Marvels episode states, in 2004 there were 54 different railroad companies operating in Pennsylvania alone.
