What truths have they thrown out to have their version of Christ centered? Do they have the Church he started? (or what they think Christ meant his church to be?). Reading ECF points to the name of his church as does the Apostle creed but I image you ingore this old early Christian creed since it does not match what you what Christ Church to be. Yes he draws all to him but how many answer his call as he wants them to and not their own version of it?
If the CC was not Christ based we would not have preserved the Bible or clarified what scriptures in the early church were inspired. We would not offer the pure sacrifice of the new Passover (Mal 1:11) We would not follow Christ's command to convert all the world to Christ which the CC did and does. Remember before 1300/1400 there were no Protestant churches in the world at all so Protestantism is a fairly new thing in Christendom.
No Mormons do not but you never said that in your post as an essential or that it was even an option so as you see I can misintrepret your meaning when I do not have all the facts. Yes you have your church but how much truth does it contain? You do not know because you do not search but if you find Christ there I am glad for you. The CC promotes Christ but then your comment does show you really never knew what the CC teaches or promotes.
@tomb1954 Mormons don't believe Christ is their saviour...lol. And I don't need your church, I have my own to teach me...We study the Bible, words have meanings....I would never say I understand everything there is to know in the Bible,,,no one does,,,not even all your many different popes....God is all knowing...but this i do know, prots promote Christ...RC's promote church....and i know enough that if Christ be lifted up He will draw all men unto Him..i go were i recieved Christ, sold Rock!
While it teaches what you stated it teaches more but you stated a minimalist believe so it is easy to say yes I believe that. I also believe Jesus started a Church with the Apostle as leaders (so an institution and not random believers) and he said he will be with them always so these leader must have successors and this church is the pillar and foundation of truth. All in the bible (even in yours)
You say baptism is an non esstial but the bible says the exact opposite so how do you know your interpretation is right? How is your right and the person next to you wrong they are reading the same bible and the same words. You based your interpretation only on 20th century knowledge because you refuse to study what theECF and the Apostle actually say. I reread your post in it says what I interpreted it to say. You said you were in unity with those that believe what you stated and the CC does.
@shanana000 I figured you would say that but based on your definition you also are in unity with the Mormons. I also would like to know who made you judge on what is essential in the Protestant faith that has to be believed to be true. One teaching of the Protestant faith is that you can interpret the bible yourself and therefore can believe what you think it says and you are Christian. Sorry but that is a Protestant teaching. Hymeneus also believed what you stated and Paul kicked him out.
@tomb1954 Please reread what I wrote and study it and think about it...by no means am i in unity with the gospel of the RCC...I compare prots and rc's like this, we might use the same biblical words but they have different meanings. as for being in disunity with others, means they aren't my bros and sis. They like the RCC are preaching a different gospel...now don't confuse that with us that have the biblical gospel being in disagreement on other non esentials for salvation...like baptism.
@shanana000 No I was not confused but I can only understand you by what you said here in this little space. Based on what you said right here then you admit a fair amount of your Protestant denomination brothers and sisters are in disunity then because they are different religions. You are also saying based on your diffinition right here that you are in unity with the Catholic Church because all Catholic believe what you stated. Ours just goes deeper in what Jesus and the Apostle taught.
@tomb1954 you don't need to name any of them...here's the standard you need to follow, it's what the apostles taught...people had to believe in Christ, then be baptized, that there is the Godhead of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And that Jesus is God...so if anyone teaches anything other then this, then they aren't a different denomination, but a different religion...so your confusing what I said...because if a different denomination does beleive these things, then yes we are in unity.
