GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "My mom, the late RUTH MAY never missed an episode of "As The World Turns". In 1977 I bought my parents tickets to see EILEEN FULTON when she brought her cabaret act to Orlando. in 1980 I interviewed COLLEEN ZENK on my cable TV show. My dad was recovering from cancer surgery at the time and Colleen wished him a speedy recovery - now that's class!"

I can never forget the organ playing this intro, or the Soap Opera itself because this was the show that was interrupted in the middle of an episode for Multiple Bulletins announcing the assassination and death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November, 1963. That:s the reason why I want to cry whenever I hear this Intro. Even though I was only a year old at the time, I only know that if "J.F.K." was alive today, he would have made me happy from his presence.

@Soapluvva Hi Soapluvva! What an honor to hear from you, my friend. I absolutely love your organ and keybord playing. You are awesome! Thanks a bunch for the info, here. I have relative pitch, and it's good to know that I was 'relatively' accurate in determining the note(s) of the bong (or doh-ings) to the ATWT theme. Take care. Thanks again, and happy organ playing!

@soap1919jt Charlie Paul gave me a copy of the handwritten score. He has it written as two A's played as an octave. That's the way I played it for my channel.
-
And by the way, happy 55th ATWT!

@east215 The beginning note (the "bong") is A natural, but the theme is in the key of D natural major.
-
R.I.P. to ATWT and happy 55th Anniversary.

stupid question, but what in what chord is the first note? my uncle plays the theme on organ, but without the first "bong" (as I call it). what is the chord?

@jsemancik1 I was thrilled to sit on the left edge of the organ bench on December 20, 1971 in CBS Studio 42 while Charlie Paul was playing the theme live for Episode #4068. The theme sounded much louder and "fuller" in the studio than it did on TV.
i can Remember being just about 5 or 6 years old and always hear that great Organ sound coming out of my living room tv every afternoon when my mom would be watching it,i played it for her just now and she almost cried ,,so great to hear and see how simple but effective the old tv (and radio for that mAtter) themes back in tv's early days, it's so great to see it again i have'nt seen this since i was a kid, great memory rush, thanks for posting it
