Watchmen A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen? from IMDB; In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. • I'm glad Dave Gibbons signed on to help with the movie. I'm disappointed that Alan Moore copped an attitude though. I have a lot of respect for the man and I love his work but he seems to hate having his work made into movies....and yet he takes the money and lets them do it.

    Lighten up, Alan. We fans would have loved to have heard you on the DVD commentary...even if you didn't like the movie.

  • I like it that they kept the little guy reading the comic coz i liked the little segments of the comic where the guy turns into a mindless killer

  • dave gibbons rules. i love his work on beneath a steel sky

  • I didn't think anyone could make a faithful movie version of the Watchmen comic, but Snyder did a spectacular job. I actually thought it was just acceptable when I saw it in the theater, but the Director's Cut improved in immensely, IMHO. Several scenes just made a lot more sense, and made the characters more realistic (Hollis Mason's death, for instance).

  • dude, one half is the writer, the other half is the artist, the writer needs the artist to draw the panels, other wise it is just a script-in-delay, with no drawings to realize the writers dreams. And Dave gibbons wanted to make the movie because he wanted to get people to read Watchmen, rather than to just have it made as a generic movie.

  • The least important one :P

  • NO IT DIDN'T! It was a squid! In one place! It EASILY would have been confused as bio-engineering gone horribly wrong and not an alien life form.

  • it made perfect sense

  • the other guy didn't like it?

  • well, at least 1 out of the two creators is happy with the movie... - _-;
