This sequence begins with a 400 by 900 light-year mosaic of several Chandra images of the central region of our Galaxy that reveals hundreds of white dwarf stars, neutron stars, and black holes bathed in an incandescent fog of multimillion-degree gas. The mosaic then zooms into a large region around the supermassive black hole at our Galaxy's center, a.k.a. Sagittarius A* or Sgr A*. Marked in this field around Sgr A* are two newly discovered large lobes of multimillion-degree gas that extend for dozens of light years on either side of the black hole. The final Chandra image in this sequence is a close-up of the location of the supermassive black hole Sgr A* and an X-ray jet. This suspected jet is 1.5 light years in length and is due to high-energy particles ejected from the vicinity of the black hole.

The Galactic Center is the rotational center of the Milky Way galaxy. It is located about 7.6 kiloparsecs (24,800 LY) away from the Earth, in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, where the Milky Way appears brightest. Scientists hypothesize that a supermassive black hole lies in the Galactic Center of the Milky Way, and most (if not all) other galaxies

nice - makes you want a bigger x-ray telescope, for even better resolution!

We have always been part of Milky Way. We (Earth) gained our moon from this collusion. We may have lost the planet between Jupiter and Mars because of this event.
Our Solar System is 95% the same as the rest of Milky Way.Our Sun is made of the same elements seen in Milky Way.SagDEG is NOT the same as our Sun.The stars seen in that galaxy are different than thoes seen in Milky Way.
Our Sun crossed SagDEG's path and got Fu*ked up good, but we were here first... and will be after it's gone.

We were part of Sagittarius galaxy, but we were consumed by the Milky Way... our galaxy wasn't the first to be consumed by the Milky Way, two more smaller galaxies had the same fate with our own. As our own galaxy I mean Sagittarius.

yes, you are correct. if our galaxy was a giant "O" we would be on the outline of the O

and it was thought to be the alpha star, thats the "a" part. like cas A and other stuff.

they didnt, its still on the SC001 star chart?

Does anyone know why astrologers after a certain point left out the constellation ophiuchus?

That would be physical proof of Sagittarius being another galaxy being consumed by the Milky Way. Nice video!!
