What I did was created a custom installation of Windows XP Pro. Added into the build is Comodo Firewall Pro, Power ISO, Firefox and all the correct drivers for this machine. It even has a custom them.

With that disc, if anything ever screws my machine up, I can restore it in under 20 minutes.

As you can see by the video, it starts booting at 0:02, and is done by 0:30.

I then load up Firefox 3 just to show how quick I can get on the web.

Wondering what the specs are? Nothing impressive!

AMD Sempron 2800+ (1.6Ghz)
768 MB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 6200
Samsung SATAII 500gb
MB : Nvidia NF8-V

With the right configuration and tweaks, you can get a pretty decent performance from kit that costs under £150!

Edit:

To create a custom install of Windows you will need the following:

nlite - for creating an unattended iso, you can download it from http://www.nliteos.com/
Windows XP CD - nlite will use the Windows XP installation disc

These are the only tools you need. When you run nlite, there's a quick read me to cover, but once done it takes no time to create a CD which will install Windows without any input needed (serial, drivers, themes software etc)

I would then head over to http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/ for more detail into customizing your installation CD.

The best way to practice getting you disc right, download Virtual Box from Sun at http://www.virtualbox.org/ it's free. It's a virtual PC that you can load you ISO into and see how things work out before you try it on a real system.

  • well thats great,my xp wont boot up full stop.

  • on my windows XP school computer it only takes 16 seconds!!

  • WTF! 500GB ._.

  • Windows MAGIC (Soon to be released), boots up in about 17 seconds on about a 500MHZ system, (tested with VirtualBox), and soon to be even faster. It also runs on less than 100 MB of Ram. matter of fact, sitting idle (newest test version), it runs 64-65MB of Ram.

Windows MaGIC is a windows XP modification I'm releasing legally, because you'll still need your own windows XP Pro CD key. Check out my newest vids to see more about it :D

  • my computer boots up faster than that

  • that was a little over then 30 but still pretty good man, beat me by 3 seconds.

  • @kissmykuyuk Sounds like you need a RAM upgrade.
