very unusual piece! Companies like Waterbury, Kroeber, etc. made animated dials for their alarm clocks - they made series of them. I've seen this model before - probably dates into the 1880s or 90s. Very rare though - I'm no professional appraiser, but I'd say it's worth in the several hundreds, perhaps even closer to 1,000. The movements on these were never meant to last one hundred years though, so be gentle with it!

oh, did want to add too- there appears to be some splitting on the back of the case. Collectors are always looking for perfect condition, so that might reduce the value somewhat.
