Jerry Richardson thinks he's Cam Newton's Master

Jerry Richardson, owner of the Carolina Panthers, talks about drafting Cam Newton like he was buying a slave. Richardson talks about meeting with Newton before signing him, to "look him in the eye, so to speak".

Newton is one of the best football players in the country, he makes millions of dollars a year. Even with all that privilege, he STILL has to suffer the indignity of sitting in some jerk's office to get lectured about how he wears his hair, etc. The message Richardson is sending is clear: You can't escape this, no matter the hoops you jump through, you will be under constant threat of humiliation by racism.

Charlotte is hosting the 2012 DNC, and Richardson himself is hosting Obama at the PLANTATION/STADIUM

I really doubt this is racist I am a lawyer and my boss does not hire people who wear earrings because it is not professional. I have a friend whose black and he was never allowed to get earrings or grow out his hair because his mom did not like it. The reason he told cam to do this is because he wants cam to promote a good image for the franchise. He obviously does not care about steve smith or deangelo williams because they are not going to represent the team like cam will.

What I find most troubling in these posts is the assumption that if you live in the Carolinas, then you are a racist. There are racists all over the country. This is a bit strange, but how many QBs have highly visible tatoos and peircings? Cam is a good looking guy, with is on field success he will make even more money with endorsements and off field earnings.

For those of you making ridiculous claims yes race does have something to do with it as with most black athletes but this was an agreement both Cam and Jerry came to nobody is saying Cam "you cant get tattoos or grow out your hair", but its more about publicity and marketing. It would be great if he could do all that he ever wanted and still be loved by most but we all know that's not the case. The man has to make a living and make the most out of it, so keep that skin clear and hair short.

He probably told this to alot of his players, Cam just happens to be the most popular one and Carolina has the #1 pick and that talk came out. I had alot of bosses BLACK AND WHITE told me it wouldnt be nice to get a tattoo, especially going into the corporate world. I'm sure when u goto job interviews u dont come with a jersey on. They tell u........ well u suppose to dress with some sense.
