  • It was from the June 6th episode.

  • Here's a thought experiment: dangle a car in the air over the street. Get the wheels up to 60 mph. Lower the vehicle onto the surface. Does it *instantly* zip away at 60 mph? No — the car has too much inertia to instantly zip away at that speed.

  • You must have never been good at physics then. As they said in the video, that car has a lot of inertia which prevents it from accelerating real fast once upon the ramp.

  • Hopefully they didn't destroy that beautiful car afterwards.

  • That is really bad for the transmission because you have to slam it into first gear as soon as the back wheels hit the ramp, unless you got enough speed to coast up the ramp

  • @Fishmorph

they did that experiment in the idiom episode

  • excuse me that is a camaro not a trans-am

  • You can also think like this. Technically braking means to stop the road rolling under the tires. To make a contact with a stationary surface means you hit the brakes suddenly. Then the momentum and a little accelerator adjustment can do the trick.

  • @kabdoun Just about to say that and then i checked the comments

  • The Trans Am and Camaro were both built on the F-body platform, so the results would be the same.

  • Correction - if you're going 55 and the truck's going 50, then the second your tires are on the truck you're going 5 on the surface, but accelerating. If you keep accelerating you'll EVENTUALLY reach 55, but the acceleration is what you need to overcome. You can't go from 5 to 55 instantly.

  • but what if the car is a 2 wheel drive car but pushed by the front tires? not by the back tires.
