Hello, thanks for your comments, mining bees operate differently than normal bees, although they live in what appears to be large colonies they are solitary, and don't have a queen, all the females lay eggs. The male mining bees are very small compared to the females, the yellow on the legs is pollen which is brought back to the burrow and placed in a separate chamber where she will lay her eggs and the larvae will feed on this pollen when they hatch.
