A part of the sign from Waukegan's legendary retail failure; Lakehurst Mall. It is still alive and just about in perfect condition for a nearly 40 year old sign.

This second video is being posted because YouTube muted the original.

Apologies for sounding so drowsy, this was recorded at 2 am.

  • I'm very suprised you still have this bird insignia. All i know is it just fell-off... Been a resident of Park City for years and kinda missed the old place... Can't forget the last liquidation sale they have during the final days of operation... I still have that shoe by Ruff Heun! Thanks for posting this video. Brings back a lot of memories... More power JonRev! Very good work!

  • Thanks for the comment!

They dismantled the sign in February 2007, I just happened to see them taking it down when I was going to McCormick Place for the Auto Show. As far as I know the seagull I have was not dropped (or did not "fall off").

The other one (this was a two-sided sign) had major damage and I believe it was either dropped, or damaged in transit to Doyle Signs.

The individual letter signs did, however, fall off over time.

  • give it back...you have to give it back...if you don't, you will be turned in ... we will trace you down via Youtube and your punishment will be twice what it would have been if you do not give it back. Caw.....Caw...caw...caw?

  • its kinda eerie the way your voice sounds over the video with the sign slightly visible in the dark until you switch the light on. Almost Hitchcock-ish!! Very good work, jonrev!!

  • Nice!!! I wish i could've copped some signs out of dixie square that were still in good condition.

  • A genuine piece of history there.
