OPUS 118 Music Fest 2008 On the Hudson

Opus 118 Harlem School of Music is the original East Harlem Violin Program featured in the Academy award nominated feature film "Music of the Heart," and documentary "Small Wonders." Roberta Guaspari, who co-founded Opus 118, still teaches with the program today. This video is a highlight real from MusicFest 2008 on June 2, 2008. Grew up with publicly funded music in school. As a parent I would fight to the nail to keep music in public education.

Ms. Guaspari has a successful formula for teaching music like Vivaldi in his day in Italy. Suzuki has a successful program in Japan that is replicated worldwide with certified teachers. I think the Guaspari 118 teaching method can be beneficial for school children everywhere, not only on Harlem. (Something like a "marketable product"... normally hate to use the phrase...)

Just watched the movie so impressed with Roberta and the kids wow this is amazing I wish my kids had a music teacher like that maybe they would have kept up with their music lessons

This program continues to amaze me. These students are terrific. I'm so glad to know that students in East Harlem continue to have this amazing music in their lives.
