Psychology.

Oh and, I like it...

Well, I'll make this quick. What your saying falls directly into John Locke's views on what shapes a person. Sensation (feedback from environment), and Reflection (thoughts on changes, etc)...
I'm not really sure there is a difference besides the name you give it "will".

So is youtube is an orwellian version of the world as you can edit out and add new data to change your persona?
-
It did sound rather Schopenhauerian at points and if I did drink I would be very drunk after watching that video - I would probably have framed it in terms of feedback and systems but that reflects me as someone who thinks visually and with flow-diagrams etc.
I just put a filter on the most Schopenhauerian bits and understood most of it. However I am not sure that there is any core thing - the will - which is a unique thing to you.

I got drunk too early into this video...
I think sometimes I can be a bit more "real" here on YouTube than I can be in "real life" just because I worry a little less what people actually think of my atheism at least. In the real world, I can't really talk about it so openly and freely.
and yeah, that's probably off topic, but oh well...

I find that most people are chameleons. They change their character depending on the audience around them.

I am so drunk now. Let me watch it again later.
Back! AND THIS TIME I'M PISSED!!! Kidding. But that's how I like sequels to go. I like what you say. I do get worried about the whole world-as-will approach, especially when dealing with identity, because world-as-will is so easy to get the private and public mixed up. In fact, I think Schopenhauer got beat up for that at recess.

Perhaps I shouldn't have used the phrase "will", rather desire. We use these tools of communication to get what we wish out of people, be it recognition, praise, what have you. In a dialogue both parties are shaping each other and the evolution of "self" in one another. Youtube is in some ways better suited to this, because I can more deliberately get what I desire from others, through editing and exclusion of things that may not help in the goal. That is, if my videos were put together well.

Oh, clearly it CAN be a character, I didn't mean to say otherwise. But by and large I think people are better expressions of themselves in this medium than in real life interactions.
