The last run out of Pikangikum, starting just as I came to the end of the lake and started into the bush. The road was pretty fair for the first few miles but got worse as it went on. Sadly, the poxy .camera batteries went flat. The lake was already gone at the other end so I was into the water before I got onto the ice itself.

  • This was in Ontario, north of Red Lake.

  • Hello!

I realy have respect for you guys out there!

    I`m a truckdriver from Holland.

Can you handle the cold out there?

What kind of truck do you drive?

    Keep on truckin!

    Greets from Holland/ the Netherlands!

  • I think that a dutch friend of mine is going to do them with me this winter. He arrived in Canada about the same time as I did.

The cold is not a big problem as a rule. I had a Kenworth T800 on the Winter Roads, but I am changing company now so don't know what I will have yet.

    Have a great day.

  • should by an Scania r620 v8;)

  • They would never handle it. They would fall apart!

    BTW, I drive a Volvo now! :-)

  • From what I gathered the income is around $25,000 a month-depending on loads-not that much for that kind of danger-and then after taxes..$58,000 for 3 months-if the ice road holds up.

  • Yikes! If after taxes..you only make 15,000-18,000 that much life threatening driving wouldn't be worth it. I don't know the tax laws up in the Yukon..

I thought it was like $50,000 or more-take home. Find out the tax laws...maybe, call up there to a trucking co and find out.

  • @Yeshuamysavior1 Sorry man, I got a quetion for you and it's kindda personnal a bit, I'll ask it and feel free to answer to it. I am actually in class for my class 1 driver license(end in june +/-) and I'm aiming at these iced roads in the future. My question is about the pay. You sais 25 grand and over, was it with or without the taxes?? I won't aim at this goal being told you'd make 50 000 in 3 mouth and come back home ith only 15 000 or 18000 or 22000.Working for nothing, you see.

  • these the real truckers courage

  • This looks great, bet you enjoyed it.

  • that wasnt even ice that was driving down a snow covered dirt road

  • ;in the uk a driver on class one work that is 40 tons will get about £20 000 to £25 000 a year that is abot $50 000 so you lads are 4 times as much thats sounds good to us in the uk

  • Good on you. Its a dangerous job but thats what makes it fun and exciting. Im applying to be a truckie aswell. But its good too see a girl giving it a go!!! :)
