Hi im new to watching fencing, and I wanna get into it. Could anyone tell me why they are attached to ropes? Thanks! :)

Because their blades are electric, they are hooked through wires into the electronic scoring system. When the tip of the weapon compresses, it sends an electrical current down a wire in the blade, to a chord (we call the body chord) that goes in your sleeve and out your back, to where it connects to a reel, the reel goes back to the end of the strip and then connects to the scoring machine!

i suppose this is "much more like an epee bout", since that's what it is. i also like how the commentator mentions how strong jeannet's hands are right before tagliariol disarms him!
