The bad guys are always bad shots. Best they can do is nick the "good" guy in the arm. But, one shot from the good guy kills the bad guy instantly. It's such a movie cliche.
Actually, these were supposedly specially trained American engineers/soldiers disguised as German soldiers who were on the original mission that Fred Williamson and the others undertook with the French partisans or underground fighters. But they didn't know that at the time of the skirmish obviously. But it still was a great action/shootout scene though.
