This music was published in Paris, so one presumes that P. Valentin was active in France during the 1850s or '60s. These two short works were included in a volume entitled "Les Organistes Contemporains," which also featured works for harmonium by such luminaries as J. L. Battmann, A. Bruneau and J. Schluty. Thanks to my friend and fan Niels in Belgium for sharing this rare music with me—along with a dare to record the Sortie. Performed by Michael Hendron on an Estey "Style T" reed organ, with two manuals and pedal clavier, built in Brattleboro, Vermont c. 1920. It stands in the balcony of the Chapel of St. George at the Bishop's Ranch, a retreat center near Healdsburg, California. Many thanks to the staff there for permission to record on 31 October 2010.
I've not managed to find much documentation on Valentin, but can mention that one library catalogue believes his opus 36 was published around 1870; another says it's a pseudonym for Georges Woëlfmann.

Valentin ? I never heard about him. Thanks for the music you made me discover. If you have the score, I would be pleased to receive it. I'm from Belgium too :) Nice playing by the way, I love the 'second parts' like on 2'01''
