This was for my 3d Animation Class at the New England Institute of Art. This was an entry level 3d class though I had some previous experience. The model is an A-Wing from Star Wars and it's built to scale and from the actual manual. Was a lot of fun and rewarding, I'm proud.

  • what program?

  • 3ds Max 8. Just remember it's not the program, but what you do with it.

  • The star Wars music was an excellent choice for that music.

  • Being it's a ship from Star Wars, I see no other option haha.

  • Ahhhh I wanna go here for college so bad. I have a question, did you take CAD or anything in high school? Because I didn't but I still want to go there for graphic design/animation.

  • NEiA? I took a semester of CAD in HS, but I wouldn't say it gave me much "experience." I had been messing around with 3ds since I was about 14. The last few years of HS, I kinda just toyed around with it until I took two classes at NEiA.

The animation program requires a drawing portfolio if I'm not mistaken

  • It is rubish. :(

  • OMG i remember building that kit (or one very similar) as a kid. NICE JOB!

This looks hard, but is actually quite simple - just time consuming. First, model the lego bricks you will need. If you require more of one type, then just duplicate.

Next, turn to setting up your animation scene. Set all the blocks so that they are above the camera view, and then translate each block down, 1-by-1 into the correct position. Timing is the most essential skill in animation, so be patient and you'll get there.

    Good luck! ^_^

  • That's really good. A-Wings rule!

  • i need to do something similar to this with autodesk maya but no idea how to even start making somethgin like this do u have any tips or suggestions

  • you used 3ds max 8 to build it

  • if you are going into it just wanting a 3D package to be easy you probably arn't using it right. Every 3D package has a difficulty to it, and like Hashmeer put it, its what you do with it. Don't go making the same stuff everyone else does. Be creative.

  • try blender, its free 2

  • I must say, thats pretty cool!

  • i just need to know an pretty easy 3d animating program im not really good with max :-(
