Learn about Polar's online service and community, www.PolarPersonalTrainer.com. PolarPersonalTrainer.com allows you to upload and organize data from your training computer, communicate with fellow athletes and create workouts.

Full transcript: Jennifer: Hi. I'm Jennifer Villani, and I'm Jake Glover, and we're part of the Polar product expert team. Today we're going to go over Polarpersonaltrainer.com, a service and online community that allows you to take your exercise data in your training computer and download it and track onto this free service. Three things that we want to focus on today is how to create your own personalized workout, how to track your progress, and how to join and engage with others via the online community. So, Jake, let's take them through a work out.
Jake: Absolutely, Jen. Planning your workouts and tracking your progress are two elements I see most frequently in effective personalized training programs. Polarpersonaltrainer.com now features a comprehensive database of strength training activities, so you can organize your strength training workouts and compare those with your heart rate data. They of course also feature Polar's classic cardiovascular programs, but now they adapt as you improve. I'm personally focusing more on strength training programs but know you've been using it more to challenge yourself for your running training.
Jennifer: Absolutely. When I'm training for a marathon I tend to work out too much in a week, maybe too many exercise sessions. So, when it's on the training calendar, I can really see from week to week and then prepare accordingly.
Jake: And that's the value of the training diary. You can see your daily file to see how much time you spent in your training zone, but you can also look at your weekly totals and then compare that to your monthly totals, so you make sure you're always heading in the right direction in your fitness program.
Jennifer: Yes. There's a lot of data there, and it's easy to view. One of the things I love is the online community feature because if there's other athletes out there like myself, I can get tips and tricks from them. There's also articles and again overall recommendations that allow you and your training program to be taken to the next level.
Jake: And in the age of addictive social networks, we finally have one that promotes a healthy activity. The online training challenges allow you to organize yourself with your family and friends or in a public challenge where you may be involved with 100 other people for a specific goal. I'm currently in two challenges: one with my family to see how many calories we can burn over the next month, and I'm in one with my fraternity brothers to see how many miles we can run leading up to a charity event in February. I'm currently in the lead by a mile and a half to the next closest person.
Jennifer: Of course you are. So to recap some of the things we went over today. Polar Personal Trainer is very easy to use. It's a great motivational tool and it's versatile, so if you're a beginner and you just want to use it to kind of track your calories, or if you're intermediate and you want to use it for a planning perspective, or if you're advanced and you really want to get detailed with every action during your workout, this is a great tool for you. The best of all is that it's free. So if you'd like to learn more info about Polarpersonaltrainer.com or any other of Polar's products and services, please visit www.polarusa.com.

  • Is it possible to import my nike+ data (with HR) into the polarpersonaltrainer site? For the time being, the only way i found was to manually enter all the sumarized data (meaning I'm losing the detailed HR monitoring of each run)...

  • is it possible to not buy the flowlink and enter the data manually instead? On second thought, I might as well enter it into any calc sheet. I understand only three values are stored: max, min and avg. So entering these three values should be quite quick.

  • As a Certified Fitness Specialist and Nutrition Coach for Seven Wellness since 2001, I recommend PolarPersonalTrainer to clients because the site helps clients attain results faster. I have dozens of clients who use the site for added motivation and support. I personally use the FT80 with G1 GPS sensor and love it. User name 'OneKnight'

  • @TheFabFoo PolarPersonalTrainer is fully Mac compatible now(Since June). The Flowlink and Datalink devices allow you to download from the FT7, FT40, FT60, FT80, RS300x and CS600x using a Mac OS. =)

  • Please provide native Linux support for Polar Flowlink (and SonicLink for my F11).

  • @TheFabFoo Well, I can run Window$ Crapista or Crapeven in SUN VirtualBox on Ubuntu Linux but what's the point?

So, dear Polar if you want me to buy FlowLink please do provide native Linux support. Forgive me asking, but how hard can it be?!

  • @szybkilopez566 Mac support is now available, bout bloody time!

  • @TheFabFoo And I'd like to get a Linux app.

  • It now comes with Mac support.
