ISA #2 from The Renewable Energy Show. This satire reminds us of the fact that we are continually letting energy companies (large and small) suck-out the earth's natural resources, and then sell the energy back to us at gigantic prices. Hydraulic Fracturing is a case in point. Deep inside the earth, about 1 mile down, natural gas is trapped in cracks and fissures. Gas companies drill down and then sideways (horizontal drilling). Next, they inject millions of gallons of highly pressurized water which has been treated with toxic chemicals into the ground. This breaks open the cracks and allows the gas to come to the surface where it is sold at ever increasing prices to customers. The water that gets back to the surface is stored in pits because it is so polluted. Most of the water remains in the ground, polluted. The Marcellus Shale holds a large amount of natural gas. Gas companies estimate that the Marcellus Shale can supply up to 14 years of natural gas, at our current levels of consumption. Did I hear you gasp? That's right, they're polluting our water for thousands of years so that they can be profitable for, maybe, ten years. No wonder the Visitors from Another Planet think earthlings are stupid.
