Low paid workers in British Columbia need and deserve an increase in the minimum wage from $8/hour to $10 - especially as the Premier recently gave himself a 54% wage increase.

  • If you were to increase the minumum wage by twenty percent you would loose about one forth of minimum wage workers

  • Interesting figures, as this has not been the case elsewhere in Canada. Are they based on some published research or is it your own gut feeeling?

  • if you make min rage its for a reason, you have no skills or experience. if you are a skilled worker you set your own pay. if not i hope you enjoy flipping burgers

  • FACT: Minimum wage kills jobs.

  • @thoughtsurfer1 Workers are scumbag.

    Fuck you socialists!!!!!

  • @jumboshrimp09

Where did you study that? FYI we experienced of about 4%/year in the last 9 years and, guess what? the government did not increase minimum wage. Wages provide purchasing power!!! Inflation causes a reduction in the purchasing power because prices go up. If your wage does not go up accordingly then you can buy less with your wage.

An increase in the minimum wage affects prices but it is not the only determinant of inflation.

  • I think that this petition to raise the minimum wage to $10/hour is quite fishy. It seems as if the BC Federation of Labor is supporting the Business sector that exploits the workers in BC. This Federation should be asking for a raise to at least cover the lost purchasing power of the wage (30%) to $12/h. Now taking into account that this wage is reviewed every 10 years the Federation should be asking for $17/h. Federation! Help the workers, not the exploitators!!!!

  • We know that the government has been taken hostage by obscure forces and those forces wants to squeeze all they can out of the population. That is the reason why we have not seen an increase in the minimum wage in 9 years. In real terms, the purchasing power has fallen by approximately 30%. So, if the minimum wage is increased every 10 years then it we must be asking to increase it to at least $17/hour, and then we will review it in 2020. So, $10/hour is just to low. $30/hour is more realistic.

  • You know what you get when wages are low, you get consumers buying less things and more credit card debt. That's supposed to make things better?

  • People think nothing of raising CEO's salaries by millions, but heaven forbid a worker (you know, the person who actually creates wealth) get a couple of more bucks. If you're making less that $12 and hour, you might as well stay home. POWER TO THE WORKERS!

  • @SuperBanneduser

    your argument was incoherent.

inflation occurs because government bring wages up artificially. wages had nothing to do with purchasing power you idiot. you dont understand economics at all
