Brother Dave Gardner sings some songs and gives a few anecdotes.

After recording a handful of semisuccessful singles as a drummer/vocalist in and around his native Memphis (he had the original hit of "White Silver Sands"), Gardner found his true calling when Chet Atkins discovered him in Nashville doing comedy routines between drum solos. His on-stage character (and by most accounts, off-stage as well) was one part hipster, one part Sunday-morning preacher, peppered with off-the-wall observations about history and life, all of it barely concealing a personality that was as convention shattering as the times would barely allow. His debut album on RCA, Rejoice, Dear Hearts!, was released at the height of the comedy-album craze in 1960, and his follow-up, Kick Thy Own Self, was even more successful.

  • NIce and and jazzy. Enjoyed your voice and passion. Thanks for sharing your joy.

Two years ago you commented on Joe Holts "Always" piano piece said you downloaded the version on MP3 to hear in your car. How did you do that? Please advise. From one who enjoys good music when you hear it to another it.Thank you in advance for your reply.

  • @LFLORESful For Joe Holt's "Always" I used a program called MP3 3D. It records sounds that are played through the computer sound board. I don't have it set up now since restoring my computer several times since.

There are web sites where you put in the web site (you tube type) address and it will make an MP3. I used one but after a few times they want some money. But you can search for others. Here's one I saved in favorites:

  • @LFLORESful After recording "Always" I used another program to edit out the so-called burp. That program is called "Sony Sound Forge 10."

  • @FB1BB1BB1 I used Sony Sound Forge 10 to put this Brother Dave variety together.

  • Thanks for this great tribute to Brother Dave. I had the honor of meeting him a few years before his death. I was a new comedian working on material in a dive bar in Houston, Texas when he came in one night. I met him after the show and he was gracious enough to talk to me and tell me that he enjoyed my set. God Bless him....and Rejoice!!!
