Completing their unit of study on economics, the 5th grade class conducted their Entrepreneur Fair last week. After learning about small business development, each student developed a concept for an individual business, and set up shop at the Entrepreneur Fair in the Blair Lobby. Businesses represented a wide range of commercial enterprises. Some students sold food items, including smoothies, sweet treats and milkshakes. Others sold tattoos, face painting, comic strips and other artwork. Others established more unique businesses: selling sports challenges and guessing games for a prize, and one student sold advice.
Customers--faculty, staff, parents and other students--kept the young entrepreneurs busy and at the end of the day the students were very pleased with the results. After accounting for expenses and small business loans to get started, the students generated $992.13 in profit, which they have decided to donate to the Montgomery County Humane Society.
