@ryoushii That is a very common yet incorrect sentiment from some one not very familiar with Spanish history.

@pitatapiu During Desert Shild, (not Storm), a Humvee, & four soldiers, on patrol, entered the Saudi town of Kopji (no spell check). On the border with occupied Kuwait, it was deserted, until a S%&T load of Iraqi's dropped in for a visit. Uninvited, of course. They hid their vehicle, and, took up residence in a tall building, (possibly a Mosque, but I ain't saying). The called in artillery, and gave good intel, until relieved the next day. That's what you call a "Huggies check". It does happen.

@wakeoftheflood2 They ran out of money. Some of those people, were poster boards.

@ryoushii Agreed. Unfortunately, the only requirement needed to be an Ally, is to have a common enemy. Then, and now.

@ryoushii And that's what I like about this programme. The 'bad guys' sometimes make a lot of sense and are easily relatable.

@ryoushii yeah but it was the French...

@wakeoftheflood2 in the book there are alot more people and attackers in the city so it was a bigger deal for them to raise it and therefore spread the rumor of the gonfalon being raised throughout Spain
-
Ive seen this episode like 4 times, and I still don't see what the big deal about raising the flag is, theres like 20 ppl in the town
So the french try to stop them from raising the flag by riding in loops for them to to shoot at. Hmm so this is where they got the AI for empire total war.

What's ironic is that the 'evil' brother with the French was right. The 'good' brother did in fact represent reaction and ignorance and bigotry, and the winning side would keep Spain poor and ignorant and priest ridden for the rest of the 19th century and a good chunk of the 20th century, right up to Francisco Franco's death in 1975, when Spain finally moved out of the 17th century.
